Women's Choir

The women’s choir season begins in October and continues through March.  Many of the women who participate in the choir are residents of City of Refuge (www.cityofrefugeatl.org), an organization that provides temporary supportive housing and job training and placement services.  The women’s choir is led by artistic director, Matt Wauchope, who also serves as choral director at Oakhurst Presbyterian.

Musical Director:

Matt Wauchope

Director

Matt Wauchope is a musician who has lived in Atlanta for the last 10 years. He studied music at Florida State before graduating from UGA. After college, he toured and recorded with Sean Costello, traveling through 48 states, Western Europe, and Scandanavia. Playing in Sean’s band allowed him the opportunity to play with blues legends such as Jody Williams, Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins, James Cotton, and Elvis Costello. He is playing on three of Sean's CD's in addition to numerous local sessions including the Blind Boy's of Alabama.

Matt is thrilled to be recently reunited with Sean's former rhtym section and his long time musical family members, Terrence Prather on drums and Melvin Zachary on bass. They are also frequently joined by on sax by the great New Orleans transplant Clarence Johnson III or Ryan Whitehead.
