Shrine’s Enduring Outreach

The Atlanta Homeward Choir was greeted with a standing ovation after entertaining some 200 people. The robust and raw voices blended to fill the barrel ceiling sanctuary of The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Spirituals and Broadway hits sung by this choir of seven, wearing lilac shirts and black pants, got people out of their seats, swaying and clapping. Pittsburgh native Tyran Austin sings a solo as the choir performs their rendition of “I’m So Glad". After the hour and a half show, while the crowd was still leaving, the choir members changed out of their shirts and pulled their wheeled bags up Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to claim their beds for the night at the Central Night Shelter.

Christmas At The White House

ATLANTA -- They sing with gusto and joy. And then, they return to the streets. The Atlanta Homeward Choir is one of the few of its kind in the country. The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Music Director Donal Noonan started the choir after driving to work and seeing the city's homeless on the streets everyday. He realized they were always waiting and he wanted to give them...

Atlanta Homeward Choir Received City of Atlanta Proclamation

We just had an amazing time at City Hall. All the guys sang their hearts out and were given a proclamation by City Hall declaring today, December 18, 2013 a day to recognize the efforts put forth to combat homelessness in Atlanta by the Catholic Shrine and the Atlanta Homeward Choir.... We are beyond happy!

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Homeward Choir came together with the Georgia State University Choral Union to sing Christmas carols to raise awareness of homelessness as well as spread holiday joy.

ATLANTA— Purposeful singing. Social engagement. Thinking beyond ourselves. That’s the essence of the upcoming collaborative concert with the Georgia State University Choral Union and the Atlanta Homeward Choir on March 23rd. Led by Associate Director of Choirs, Dr. Joy Meade, the Choral Union teams up with the Atlanta Homeward Choir for a special spring concert, “The Road Home” at the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

MEDIA BITES & LINKS

During the holidays, our family always looks forward to welcoming guests from across the country and throughout the world to the White House.

December 21, 2015

"I have witnessed the amount of people in the community who came together to make this happen," Noonan said, referring to donations that poured in to pay for plane tickets, hotel rooms, food and clothes. "It's almost faith affirming. There's so much good in the world."
